About the workshop

 

"Resource Utopia" is a regional exhibition project. It is intended to create image stories that illuminate reality through a meta-level, reflect on lived experiences and become metaphors of future events. 

​

The project "Resource Utopia", project is a 6 month long workshop which consists 3 workshops and exhibitions in Istanbul and Berlin, based on the concepts of Ernst Bloch of the "cold current" and the "warmth current". In the "cold current" is the sober, sharp, clear and perhaps distant analysis of the social conditions and their developmental tendencies. In the "warming current", the principle of hope lies: the wishes and expectations of the people.

​​CONCEPT

 

To talk about the future, every person can probably make a worrying contribution. The ubiquitous claim that there are unavoidable economic, social, political constraints, makes the current reality appear as something that intimidates and obeys. Subjective point of departure for individual action under these circumstances becomes subjection to compulsion. There is nothing left to bear but reality. But the longing for a way out grows, dreams become important, an impossibility point in the world, a utopia is sought. However, what may seem a part of humanity as a utopia is for another part a dystopia. Genetic engineering or artificial intelligence, for example, can be the source of infinite prosperity as well as total enslavement of man. A conversation about Utopia becomes a power struggle of the most diverse desires. In the face of bloody failed utopias like that of communism, many people reject the realization of utopias, for moral reasons. But no matter how one might answer this question for itself, utopian thinking seems to have a powerful force that hardly a man can escape, and so the history of the utopias can be traced back to Plato. In the "Resource Utopia" workshop, we are unlikely to find any ultimate answers to mankind's question of utopia, but the project provides a way to explore the incredible energy behind it and to draw from this exploration.

 

Photography and video art as expressive media for "resource utopia" have a special appeal, since at first glance they seem to be more committed to the present now than to the future, which they cannot depict. They are concerned with the present and at the moment when the trigger is actuated, this is already past and their images justify our memory. Likewise, the technically generated pictorial worlds can also serve to discover the future in the present, to analyze the present in the future. Or, as Robert Jungk,  wrote in 1952: "The morning is already present in today, but it still masks as harmless, it camouflaged and exposed itself behind the familiar. The future is not a utopia that is cleanly detached from the present: the future has already begun. But it can still be changed if recognized in time. "

 

The project "Resource Utopie", workshop and exhibition, is based on the concepts of German Philosopher Ernst Bloch of the "cold current" and the "warmth current". Atölye hakkında:

​

"Resource Utopia / Kaynak Olarak Ütopya" bölgesel bir sergi projesidir. Proje Türkiye'de gerçekleştirilmelidir. Gerçekliği meta seviyesinde aydınlatan, yaşanan deneyimleri yansıtan ve gelecekteki olayların metaforları haline gelebilen görsel hikayeler yaratmak amaçlanmıştır.

 

6 ay sürecek 3 atölye çalışması, fotoğraf kitabı , İstanbul ve Berlin’de açılacak sergilerden oluşan "Resource Utopia" projesi, Alman felsefeci Ernst Bloch'un "soğuk akıntı" ve "sıcak akıntı" kavramlarına dayanıyor. "Soğuk akıntı", sosyal koşulların ve gelişim yönelimlerinin yalın, direkt, temiz, yakın veya uzak analizidir. "Sıcak akıntı”, ise “umut ilkesi” yatar: Halkın dilek ve beklentileri.

KONSEPT

 

Gelecek hakkında konuşurken her insan, muhtemelen endişe verici bir katkıda bulunabilir. Kaçınılmaz ekonomik, sosyal, siyasi kısıtlamaların bulunduğuna dair her yerde var olan iddia, mevcut gerçekliği korkutan ve itaatkar bir şey gibi gösterir. Bu koşullar altında bireysel eylem için öznel doğum noktası mecburiyete tabidir. Gerçek dışında katlanılacak hiçbir şey kalmamıştır. Ancak, bir çıkış yolunun özlemi büyür, hayaller önem kazanır, dünyadaki bir imkânsızlık noktası olan bir ütopya aranır. Bununla birlikte, bir ütopya olarak insanlığın bir parçası gibi görünen şey, bir başka açıdan distopyaya aittir. Örneğin, genetik mühendisliği ya da yapay zeka sonsuz refahın yanı sıra insanın tamamen köleleştirilmesinin kaynağı olabilir. Ütopyayla ilgili bir konuşma, en farklı arzuların iktidar mücadelesi haline gelir. Komünizm gibi başarısız ütopyalar karşısında birçok kişi ahlaki nedenlerle ütopyaların gerçekleşmesini reddeder. Ancak, bu sorunun yanıtı her ne olursa olsun, ütopyacı düşünce, bir insanın kolay kolay kaçamayacağı güçlü bir güce sahip gibi gözükmektedir ve bu nedenle ütopyanın tarihi Plato'ya kadar geri götürülebilir. "Resource Utopia" atölye çalışmasında, insanlığın ütopya sorusuna nihai cevaplar bulabilmemiz pek mümkün değil, ancak proje, bu konunun arkasındaki inanılmaz enerjiyi keşfetmenin ve bu keşiften başlamanın bir yolunu sunuyor.

 

"Resource Utopia" için ifade aracı olarak fotoğraf ve video sanatının seçilmesi, ilk bakışta gösteremeyecekleri gelecek yerine şimdiye adanmış görünüyor olmaları sebebiyle özel bir cazibeye sahiptir. Fotoğraf ve video şimdi ve şu anla ilgilenirken deklanşöre basıldığında bu artık geçmiştedir ve görüntüler hafızamızı doğrular. Aynı şekilde, teknik olarak üretilen görsel dünyalar, şimdinin içindeki geleceği keşfetmek, geleceğin içinde yer alan şimdiyi analiz etmek için kullanılabilir. Veya " Robert Jungk'un 1952'de yazdığı gibi: "Sabah bugün içerisinde zaten mevcut, ancak yine de zararsız olarak görünüyor; kendisini tanıdıkların arkasına saklamış ve oradan kendisini gösteriyor. Gelecek, şu andan tamamen ayrılmış bir ütopya değil; gelecek zaten başladı. Ancak zamanında fark edilirse hala değiştirilebilir.
